BRIG GEN AUGUSTO L JURADO AFP was born in Tondo, Manila on 14 October 1916.

He completed his primary education in Baguio Central School and his secondary education in Tayabas High School. He then decided to enter the Philippine Constabulary Academy (now Philippine Military Academy) as a cadet. He graduated from the academy in 1938 and joined the Philippine Army Air Corps Flying School where he became a rated pilot in 1939.

During World War II, he distinguished himself as Company Commander of the Philippine Army Air Corps Provisionary Infantry Battalion assigned at Aglaloma Point and Quinan Beach defenses. It is in this bloody battle ground that the Air Corps made its heroic stand. Following the surrender of Bataan and Corregidor, he joined the 6th Military District as Intelligence Officer of the guerilla movement.

After the Liberation, General Jurado, together with fellow Filipino pilots, was sent to the US to take up pilot refresher courses. He went to Randolph Field, Perrin Field, Aloe Field and Foster Field, all in Texas, and finally at William Field, Arizona. A U.S. trained fighter pilot from USAF Air Tactical School at Tyndall Field, Florida, he later took up the Field Officers Course in Maxwell Air Force Base and the General Staff Course at Air University in Albama, USA.

General Jurado’s major assignments in his military career are the following: Wing Commander, 410th Air Materiel Wing; Commander, Nichols Air Base; Wing Commander 205th Composite Wing; Operations Chief, Armed Forces of the Philippines; Military Attache, Philippine Embassy in Washington DC; Later, he was appointed Vice Commander of the Philippine Air Force in October 1963 and reached the zenith of his career in 1964 when he was promoted to Brigadier General and designated as Commanding General, PAF until his retirement from the military service on 01 June 1965.

General Jurado is a recipient of numerous awards and decorations such as the U.S. Silver Star, Military Merit Medal, Philippine Defense Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, American Defense Medal, and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, among others.

He is married to the former Marie Rose Chuidian and has five children namely Emerita, Maria Consuelo, Ricardo, Cecilia and Juan.
