13 February 2017

In relation to the aftermath of magnitude 6.7 earthquake that shook the Surigao City last February 10, the 220th Airlift Wing of the Philippine Air Force immediately responded and provided one (1) C130 aircraft to transport the relief goods at Butuan airport at about 120 kilometers from the center of the affected cities. The flight sorties commenced on February 12, 2017 to offset the impact brought about by the earthquake.

An estimated of 20,000 pounds of relief goods were already delivered in the on-going airlift missions of the PAF.

Meanwhile, images of collapsed concrete walls and bridges, heavily cracked buildings, shattered glass windows and canopies including the large cracks in the Surigao airport runway were seen right at the center of the City. Consequent to this, the government immediately activated the concerned agencies tasked in the humanitarian and disaster response operations.

Furthermore, 220th AW is ever ready to respond around the clock. The intensive maintenance work of the wing ensures that the air assets are in full operational status and all set for relief operations should similar calamities happen.
