The PAF’s most anticipated annual symposium on airpower takes place on Thursday (09 June) at the Marriot Grand Ballroom in Pasay City ahead of the PAF 69th anniversary celebration, with the complex security challenges in WPS facing the PAF and the AFP in general, to dominate discussions.Under the theme “Breaking barriers, realizing aspirations towards a Jointly Engaged Transforming Force for greater peace and security,” this whole day event is a gathering of senior leaders, defense and military officials, members of the academe, defense industry partners, airpower practitioners, and others who have a stake in the country’s defense security and development. Foreign military officials, mostly country defense attachés that include those from China, were also invited to attend.
This year’s AFS key speakers are Hon Justice Antonio T Carpio, Senior Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, who will talk about the Rule of Law, Regional Security and the West Philippine Sea.; Lt Gen YoshinariMarumo, Vice Chief of Staff of Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JADSF), who will talk about his organization’s experience in “developing air defense architecture”; and Major Gen Michael B Compton, Air National Guard Assistant to the Commander of Pacific Air Forces, who will discuss the “role of airpower in ensuring freedom of navigation in the open seas.”
The AFS 2016 will also showcase the PAF’s new and improved capabilities with booth display of actual and mock equipment. The morning session is an open time for viewing exhibits that include those from defense suppliers, as well as, for interacting and engaging with foreign and local defense industry leaders who will render respective presentation on various airpower topics. The afternoon session is the symposium proper which starts with the first key topic speaker to present at 1:20 PM.
Everyone in the media is invited to cover the event, view the exhibits, and interact with the participants. However, only ten (10) media people will be given access to attend the afternoon symposium proper that will be distributed as such: seven (7) from the Defense Press Corps (DPC) and three (3) from the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP). Transportation will be provided that will leave Camp Aguinaldo at exactly 7:30 AM.
