Orphans are the most vulnerable children in the world. They live without the support and care from their biological parents. They were probably abandoned by their parents or have lost their parents at an early age. The St. Francis Orphanage of Zamboanga diligently took the responsibility of substituting and replicating the love of the parents for these children. The orphanage has already served the community of Zamboanga for over 32 years.
As part of the Pre-Anniversary Activities of the Squadron in connection with its “Golden” 50th Founding Anniversary, the 206th Tactical Helicopter Squadron conducted an Adopt-an-Orphanage Activity last 20 July 2019. The said activity was conducted together with the Ateneo de Zamboanga University students. The recipients of the activity were the orphans of the St. Francis Orphanage at Pasonanca, Zamboanga City.
The program started with an opening prayer by the Grade 8 students of Ateneo de Zamboanga University at St. Francis Hall, followed by the opening remarks delivered by MAJ REUBEN SANCHO B ZATE PAF, the Operations Officer of the 206THS. The orphans were then invited for a series of games.
Through the cooperation and assistance of the 206THS personnel, the orphans enjoyed the kiddie games, which decorated a smile on their faces. The students from Ateneo de Zamboanga showcased their “sing and dance” performance while the 206THS presented a video clip unfolding the 206THS vision and mission. The event ended with a gift-giving to the orphans and social workers of the St. Francis Orphanage.
Through the effort and collaboration from Ateneo de Zamboanga University, the activity was successfully conducted and strengthened as a regular activity to be held annually. With this, the morale of these parentless students, as well as workers of St. Francis, the whole orphanage was uplifted.
