GENERAL ARNULFO G ACEDERA JR was born in Cardona, Rizal on 18 December 1941. In 1959, he joined the Philippine Military Academy and graduated as a member of the PMA Class of 1963. Immediately after, he started his Military Pilot Training in the Philippine Air Force Flying School in Lipa City where he graduated in 1965.

His military career grew after completing various training and courses locally and abroad. Because of his dedication to serving the country and the people, General Acedera became the 23rd Commanding General of the Philippine Air Force in December 1995. With his Command Thrust, “Decisive Leadership, Professional Knowledge,” he has led the Philippine Air Force to its peak when additional MG-520, C-130B, and F-5 aircraft were acquired. Memorandum of Agreements on Defense Cooperation between Indonesia, Thailand, and the United Kingdom was also signed under his Command.

Being the father of the organization, the Philippine Air Force Officer Candidate School was established as a primary source of Officers of the PAF. It was also during his tenure that the Tactical Operations Command, Air Defense Command, and the Air Logistics Support Command were activated.

On November 28, 1996, General Acedera became the 24th Chief of Staff, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and has brought the AFP into the higher echelon as it enters the second millennium. He received various awards and decorations such as Distinguished Service Stars, Distinguished Aviation Cross, Bronze Cross Medal, Silver Wing Medal, AFP Combat Commander’s “Kagitingan” Badges, among others.

Today, the Officers, Enlisted Personnel, and Civilian Human Resources of Philippine Air Force led by the Commanding General, Philippine Air Force LTGEN ALLEN T PAREDES, mourns the loss of one of PAF's fathers who molded the organization into what it is today. His legacy that he has embedded to the men and women of the PAF will never be forgotten as we are forever grateful to have a leader like GEN ACEDERA.
