A young Huey helicopter co-pilot received a Wounded Personnel Medal after suffering a bullet hit during the ongoing all-out offensive against the BIFF in Maguindanao.
The Commanding General, PAF LT GEN JEFFREY F DELGADO AFP visited the hero pilot to personally present the said award and also to boost the morale of other Air Force patients at the AFP Center V Luna Hospital in Quezon City last March 9, 2015. The Huey co-pilot was part of an operations involving five UH-1H helicopters performing troop insertion mission last March 05, 2015 at Maguindanao when a bullet from enemy ground fire ricocheted to his shoulder through the UH-1H aircraft’s radio console AFSSG
The Pilot-in Command immediately performed an evasive maneuver away from harm’s way and returned the aircraft safely to a military base with the ground troops on-board.
PAF pilots and their crew are currently providing air support to ongoing operations against the BIFF and bravely face the challenge of bringing their aircraft as low and close to enemy defensive positions within range of enemy fires.
