PAF COMPLETES EMERGENCY QUARANTINE FACILITIES FOR COVID-19 PATIENTS

The Philippine Air Force under the leadership of the Commanding General, Philippine Air Force LTGEN ALLEN T PAREDES AFP, through the 355th Aviation Engineer Wing in collaboration with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, WTA Architecture and Design Studio, students of MSIB 2021 of Asian Institute Management and other stakeholders, assisted in the completion of the Emergency Quarantine Facility (EQF) in Fernando Air Base in Lipa City, Batangas on April 14, 2020.

The construction of EQF started last April 7 and was completed within eight (8) days. The current design features a 15-bed capacity made of good lumber, polypropylene sheet, and roof insulator. It was composed of nurses’ lounge, disinfection and sanitation area, bathrooms, and shower room.

The facility was officially blessed and turned-over to the Commander of Air Education, Training, and Doctrine Command, MGEN FERDINAND M CARTUJANO AFP on April 16, 2020, which was also made readily available. 

Moreover, on April 7, 2020, another two (2) EQF were constructed in Bulacan Medical Center and Sacred Heart Hospital, Malolos, Bulacan which were completed on April 16, 2020.

The turn-over ceremony of the combined 22-bed capacity was attended by members of the AFP; a representative from Malolos Local Government Unit; Office of the Chief Engineer, 355th AEW; Architect William Ti of William Ti and Associates, who designed the facility; and, officials and staff of Bulacan Medical Center and Sacred Heart Hospital of Malolos, City. 

The EQF was designed to help decongest hospitals and accommodate suspected and probable cases of COVID-19 mass testing. Beneficiary hospitals will serve as the caretakers of the said facility. 

Ongoing construction of EQFs is also in full-swing at AFPHSC, V-Luna, Quezon City; La Consolacion University General Hospital, Plaridel, Bulacan; and, Emmanuel Hospital, San Miguel, Bulacan and are soon to be completed. 

Meanwhile, future construction of the same facility in other places is set to be executed in the next following days.

The prompt construction of EQF serves as one of the PAF's main efforts in support of the whole-of-nation approach in the fight against COVID-19. The dedication and skills of the PAF personnel is a commitment to protect our fellow countrymen from the threat of the unseen enemy.
