20 July 2017

The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Rodrigo Roa Duterte boarded the C-295 aircraft on July 20, 2017 to support his subsequent visit to Marawi City after three attempts.

The aircraft was utilized from Davao to Lumbia Airport and was picked up from Laguindingan Airport back to Davao. A chopper aircraft was then used to ferry him from Lumbia to Marawi City, particularly in Army's 103rd Brigade Headquarters, which is a few kilometers away from the actual conflict area.

The President's visit was meant to boost the morale of the troops operating in the area and to acknowledge all their efforts in this campaign.

VIP flights are nothing new to the 220th Airlift Wing as it continues to provide quality airlift for our military commanders and other government leaders, almost every day. But flying with the President is something completely different. For the aircrew of the C-295 aircraft led by Lt Col Thorsten Ajello Bautista PAF, flying the President to his place of engagement, is absolutely an overwhelming feeling. And the fact that the President continues to fly with us, it only means one thing - he is indeed confident and proud of our airlifters.
