According to reports, the Philippines is said to be one of the five countries that contribute to the world’s plastic waste. With this in mind, the 220th Airlift Wing under the leadership of BGEN STEPHEN P PARREÑO AFP, Wing Commander, conducted a Coastal Clean-up drive at Brgy Maravilla, Tabuelan, Cebu, last 05 May 2019. The said activity is one of the Pre-Anniversary activities of the Wing in line with its 46th Founding Anniversary.

The one-kilometer stretch white sand beach of Brgy Maravilla is considered to be as one of the best beaches in Cebu and is being flocked by local and foreign tourists especially during the summer season, hence, it is not spared from garbage being thrown everywhere by undisciplined visitors.

After coordination with Mr. Renerio Oca Jr, Barangay Captain of Maravilla, the 220th AW personnel represented by MAJ CARLO MAGNO D RIBAYA PAF, Squadron Commander, 473rd Supply and Support Squadron, conducted the coastal clean-up, picking up thrashes along the coastline and on the beach. The group was able to collect 10 sacks of assorted plastic trash scraped from the 1-kilometer shoreline.

The successful coastal clean-up activity brought awareness to the locals and tourists who witnessed the activity and will hopefully serve as an eye opener and inspiration to the public to maintain the cleanliness and preserve the beauty of Maravilla beach.

AIRLIFTERS AYUS!
