LT GEN LEOPOLDO S ACOT AFP was born in Midsayap, Cotabato on 13 December 1937.

His military career started when he joined the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in Baguio City on 01 April 1955 and graduated on 25 April 1960. A month later after graduating from the PMA, he joined the military pilot training at PAF Flying School, Lipa City on 01 June 1960 and completed the training on 18 March 1962. While in the service, he was able to study Program Evaluation and Review Technique/ Critical Path Method (PERT/ CPM) at University of the Philippines in 1970 and finished his Master of Business Administration degree at the Asian Institute of Management, Makati in 1974.

He completed various military trainings and courses such as the Squadron Officers Course at Air Command and Staff College, Nichols Air Base (now CJVAB) in 1965; Counter Intelligence Course and Military Intelligence Collection Course at Special Intelligence Training School, Intelligence Service AFP, Camp Aguinaldo in 1967; Counter Subversion and Allied Intelligence Course at National Security Bureau, Taipei, Taiwan in 1969; and the General Staff Course at Curso De Estado Mayor, Escuela Superior del Aire, Madrid, Spain in 1976.

General Acot was assigned in different significant positions such as Armed Forces Attache, Philippine Embassy, Tel Aviv, Israel from 25 July 1978 to 31 July 1984; Chief of Air Staff from 28 May 1988 to 15 April 1990; Division Commander of the 2nd Air Division, Mactan Air Base, Lapu-Lapu City from 31 April 1990 to 13 May 1991; Commander, Clark Air Base Command from 16 May 1991 to 16 February 1992; He served as Acting Commanding General, PAF from 26 February to 07 April 1992; assumed Vice Commander, PAF from 17 February to 08 August 1992; and finally as Commanding General, PAF from 08 April 1992 to 13 October 1993.

He is a recipient of various awards and decorations such as the Distinguished Conduct Star, Distinguished Service Stars, Gold Cross Medal, Distinguished Aviation Cross, Silver Wing Medal, and Cruz Merito Aeronautico con Distincto Blanco (Meritorious Aeronautical Cross), among others.

Lieutenant General Acot is married to Joan Feir Acot with whom he has three children namely Vera Liza, Leopoldo John and Arthur Emmanuel.
