BRIG GEN JUAN B GUEVARRA AFP was born in Baao, Camarines Sur on 03 February 1912.

He completed his primary education in his hometown and finished his secondary education from Camarines Sur High School. He began his college at San Juan de Letran College where he earned his Associates in Arts and continued to study Bachelor of Laws at the University of Sto. Tomas, Manila. He was able to finish his studies in 1959 at Francisco Law College while he was serving the Philippine Air Force.

His military career began when after graduating from college, he joined as a cadet at the Philippine Army Air Corps Flying School, Zablan Field in June 1938 and completed his training on 08 July 1939. After receiving his commissionship as 3rd Lieutenant, he remained with the school as Flight Instructor and later as Flight Commander of Primary Flight Training while serving as Post Operations Officer and Post Adjutant at Zablan Field, Camp Murphy (now Camp Aguinaldo).

During the war, he was a courier pilot based in Kindley Field in Fort Mills, Corregidor up to February 1942. When he was transferred to Mindanao, he served as an intelligence officer of the Communication Zone of the 101st Division, Visayan-Mindanao Forces until he was captured and imprisoned in Malaybalay, Bukidnon and later transferred to Capas, Tarlac concentration camp. After his release from the concentration, he joined the Allied Intelligence Bureau headed by Colonel Jesus Villamor as an intelligence operative that worked in the Southern Luzon area.

Returning to military control in 1945, he was detailed as Commanding Officer of the 1st Air Service Group and was later sent to different USAF service schools to take aircraft Maintenance Course at Chanute Field and Advanced Transition Flying at Air Tactical School, Tyndall Air Force Base. Later, he was designated Liaison Officer of the Procurement Mission at the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C.. Upon his return to the Philippines, he served with the Department of Foreign Affairs for some time before returning to U.S. to take the Field Officers Course at Maxwell AFB, Alabama and Air-Ground Operations Course at Pope AFB, North Carolina.

Prior to his assumption of command of the Philippine Air Force on 27 May 1968, he held various positions of major responsibilities such as Wing Commander, 205th Composite Wing; Philippine Military Liaison Officer at Clark Air Base; Philippine Attache in Tokyo, Japan; 1st Air Division Commander, and as Vice Commander of the Philippine Air Force.

General Guevarra is a recipient of numerous awards and decorations such as the Philippine Defense Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, American Defense Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Medal, among others.

General Guevarra is married to the former Angelina Domingo and is blessed with a child named Milagros.
