MAJ GEN RAMON J FAROLAN AFP was born in Baguio City on 31 Aug 1934.

He finished his secondary education from University of the Philippines, Diliman in 1951 before he joined the Philippine Military Academy and graduated in 1956. He later studied flight training at the Philippine Air Force Flying School Class where he graduated in 1957. He later completed his Masters Degree in Management from the Asian Institute of Management in 1975.

General Farolan was earlier assigned with the Philippine Army to fight the protracted war against Hukbalahap Movement in Quezon Province where he was a Platoon Leader of the B Company, 4th Battalion Combat Team, before being called back to the Philippine Air Force to join the military pilot training and serve as Flight Instructor at the PAF Flying School.

He completed various military courses such as the Air-Ground Operations Course in 1958; Personnel Management Seminar in 1959; Weapons Controller Course at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida in 1959; Squadron Officer Course at Air Force Officers School in 1960; High Altitude Physiological Training at Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa, Japan in 1961; Personnel Officers Orientation Course in U.S.; SEATO Area Familiarization Course in Thailand in 1964; and the Strategic Intelligence Course at Fort Bonifacio In 1966.

He was detailed in Thailand as Assistant to the Philippine Military Advisers Representative in SEATO, Bangkok in 1964. From 1969 to 1972, he was Acting Military Attache to the Philippines Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand. He held important and delicate positions in the civil government from 1972 to 1986 such as Military Supervisor for Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) at the Manila International Airport from 1972 to 1977; Administrator of Civil Aviation Authority from September to November 1972; and as Commissioner of the Bureau of Customs and Chairman of the Board of Examiners for Customs Brokers 1977 to 1986, among others.

He became PAF Commanding General on 24 February 1986 after the triumph of the EDSA-People Power Revolution which overthrew the former dictatorial government of President Ferdinand Marcos. After retiring from the military service, he was appointed Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia for two and a half years and headed the Export Processing Zone Authority for two years.

Major General Farolan is a recipient of various awards and decorations such as the Order of the Elephant from the Royal Thai Air Force; The Military Merit Medal from the Presidential Security Command; PAF Kahusayan Award; and the Golden Dolphin Award from the Philippine Coast Guard, among others.

He is married to the former Sylvia M Joaquin of Quezon City, Metro Manila whom he has three children namely Miguel, Francisco and Carmela.
