The Philippine Air Force was tasked to organize a Task Force in Palawan under the General Order Number 333, HPAF dtd 08 March 1973 an TO Nr AF-08-73 dtd 02 March 1973 in compliance with the mandate of Proclamation 1081. Hence, the second day of March 1973 marked the birth of an Air Force unit in Palawan. It was organized to secure the Western Frontier of the country under the Leadership of COL GREGORIO C CASTRO PAF (GSC). As a Task Force, its mission was to perform air operation in Palawan are and Kalayaan Group of Islands (KIG) in support of the AFP mission. Task Force Palawan was directly under the operational of the Commanding General, PAF and under the command control of Sulu Frontier Air Command (SUFAC). It was stationed at Puerto Princesa City.
The Air Force Finance Center was organized pursuant to General Order Nr 130, HPAF dated 20 Oct 1973. Activated and manned as a provisional unit on 01 November 1973. The Commanding General, PAF exercises Command and Control, while the Assistant Chief of Air Staff for Comptrollership, A-6 has the staff supervision on the PAF Finance Center. All of the Officers, Enlisted Personnel and Civilian Personnel from the Office of the Director for Finance and the Finance Office of the different Wings/Units were absorbed by the PAF Finance Center. And finally, Pursuant to para II GO Nr 273, GHQ AFP dtd 15 April 1987, the Philippine Air Force Finance Center (PAFFC) was activated as regular unit of the Philippine Air Force and assigned Armed Forces of the Philippines Table of Organization and Equipment Number p14-4 effective 10 April 1987. Personnel and equipment of the Center shall be within the authorized ceiling of the Philippine Air Force
On the first of November 1980, the wing activated its detachment in Kalayaan Island/Pagasa pursuant to General Orders Nr 383, HPAF dtd 30 October 1980. On the sixteenth of April 1983, 570th Air Base Wing was placed under the command and control of the Commanding General, PAF pursuant to Sec III, para 1 General Orders Nr 93, HPAF 17 March 1983.
Finally, on the sixteenth of June 1983, the 570th ABW was re-organized and re-designated as 570th Composite Tactical Wing pursuant to Sec I General Orders nr 258, HPAF dtd 22 June 1983. The 570th Composite Tactical Wing mission is to provide and maintain base services and its respective stations/ locations and to perform combat air operations on its area of responsibility.
On fourteenth March 2006 the 570th Composite Tactical Wing was re-organized and re-designated as 4th Tactical Operations Wing Pursuant to General Orders nr 90, HPAF dtd 16 March 2006 under the command and control of Tactical Operations Command headed by then MGEN PEDRO IKE I INSERTO AFP.
After one year, four months and seventeen days to be exact, the Wing was again re-organized and re-designated as 570th Composite Tactical Wing pursuant to para I General Orders Nr 305 HPAF dtd 31 August 2007 under the command and control of Commanding General, PAF.
A year later, the Wing was again re-organized and re-designated as 570th Composite Tactical Wing pursuant to para I General Orders Nr 305 HPAF dtd 31 August 2007 under the command and control of Commanding General, PAF. After 10 years and 4 months of being 570th Composite Tactical Wing, it was then re-designated as Tactical Operations Wing West (TOWWEST) pursuant to General Orders Nr 447, HPAF dtd 01 January 2018.
Today, the Tactical Operations Wing West (TOWWEST) performs Tactical Air operations within its assigned area of responsibility. It also provides, operates and maintains base services at station/location. TOWWEST contributes extensively to the objectives of national security, socio-economic development, maintenance of peace and order and the preservation of the environment that makes it a vital component of Philippine Air Force.
