LOCAL PRODUCTS AIRLIFTED FROM DAVAO TO MANILA

31July 2017

Agricultural products weighing almost 15,000 lbs were ferried from the old Davao Airport to Colonel Jesus Villamor Air Base, Pasay City through the use of the Philippine Air Force's C-130 aircraft led by the 220th Airlift Wing on July 27, 2017.

Initially, the mission is part of the Philippine Food Skyway of the Department of Agriculture (DA), which applies the concept of moving food from one island to another within the country. These products will be displayed during the launching of TienDA Farmer's Outlet on July 28 at the Bureau of Plant Industry compound in San Andres, Malate, Manila. This activity will be conducted twice a month starting in August to December 2017.

Accordingly, the conduct of TienDA embodies the DA's thrust in increasing farmers and fisherfolks' income by providing direct market opportunities to consuming public through showcasing the champion products by region. Similarly, it aims to ensure the consumers to have affordable and reasonable prices of agricultural products fresh from the farm and at farm-gate prices. The activity is indeed timely considering that the season of fruits in Mindanao usually starts this August.

Flight missions such as this represent the non- traditional roles being performed by the Air Force. And in many cases, the impact of these flights have seen the inclusive economic development of the country with its significant effect largely felt by the rural communities.

Therefore, your airlifters will be committed to support similar programs in the future especially in uplifting the socio-economic conditions of our local farmers.
