AIRMEN SENT TO MARAWI FOR COMBAT DUTY RECEIVE HEROES’ WELCOME

07 November 2017

200 airmen were accorded with Heroes’ Welcome on Monday morning, November 06, 2017, right after the flag raising ceremony held at the PAF Grandstand, Colonel Jesus Villamor Air Base Pasay City which was led by the newly-installed PAF Commanding General, LIEUTENANT GENERAL GALILEO GERARD R KINTANAR JR AFP.

The honored soldiers were chosen from different units of the PAF such as the 5th Fighter Wing, 15th Strike Wing, 205th Tactical Helicopter Wing, 220th Airlift Wing, 710th Special Operations Wing, 355th Aviation Engineering Wing, Tactical Operations Command, 300th Air Intelligence and Security Group, 900th Air Force Weather Group, Air Force General Hospital, Air Judge Advocate, and Mobile Kitchen.

The ceremony was intended to honor and acknowledge the airmen’s bravery and selfless dedication to duty during the Marawi siege that lasted for five months.

At the onset of the conflict in Marawi City, the Philippine Air Force answered the call of duty of suppressing adversary forces and at the same time, protecting the communities from the ills of the enemy’s exploits by providing the necessary air and ground support to the military operations conducted by the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The activity was attended by the ground commanders who also played a major key roles in liberating Marawi City. The following were: former Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, GENERAL EDUARDO M AÑO AFP (Ret); Commanding General of the Philippine Army, LIEUTENANT GENERAL ROLANDO JOSELITO D BAUTISTA AFP; Commander of Western Mindanao Command, LIEUTENANT GENERAL CARLITO G GALVEZ JR AFP; and Task Force Trident Commander, MAJOR GENERAL DANILO G PAMONAG AFP.

The Heroes’ Welcome was the very first time that the PAF’s air, ground, and support personnel were able to meet each other after the war broke out in Marawi City on May 23. Moreover, it also served as a symbolic activity for our ground commanders for they had finally met the gallant pilots, crew, and airmen of the PAF whom they had worked with.
