AIRLIFTERS WELCOME SECOND C-130 FEMALE PILOT-IN-COMMAND

02 February 2017

Another female pilot in the person of Major Clarie Belle D Clua PAF checked out last February 2, 2017 as Pilot-in-Command of the C-130 aircraft of the Philippine Air Force. Maj Clua is the second woman named in the prestigious roster of C-130 pilots and underwent the traditional dunk in aviation - carried from the aircraft to the dunking pool which symbolized her achievement as the base band played amid loud cheers from the airlifter's family.

Her achievement was also made possible through his mentor, Instructor Pilot and incumbent 222nd Airlift Squadron Commander, Maj Anthony R Amora PAF, who painstakingly guided her all throughout her almost two months of instructional flight mission until she was released. Truly, another milestone has unfolded when this confident woman made it to the elite roster of transport pilots. Women’s role as qualified pilots manning the C-130 aircraft is a welcome turn of events considering its various routine and special flight missions. It is made possible because the Wing recognizes women participation and practices gender equality that espouses equal opportunities for men and women.

The welcome changes is in part, brought about by Wing Commander, BGen Nicolas C Parilla AFP, since his walking order is to continue developing the skills of the pilots and crew so that the Unit's training programs become purposive to really meet actual skills requirements. He is generous and never fails to recognize the efforts of all instructor pilots and supervisors. BGen Parilla emphasized his point and specified, “I know it really takes a lot of patience to teach but in the end, it really would pay off. I tell you there is nothing more exciting and fulfilling than being able to see your students grow and succeed; and there is nothing more painful than to see them poorly".
