AIRLIFTERS NOMAD FORUM (SAFETY FIRST)

The Philippine Air Force 223rd Airlift Squadron known as the Home of the Nomads, spearheaded a Nomad Forum last April 12, 2017 held at the 223rd AS, 220TH Airlift Wing, BGen Benito N Ebuen Air Base (BGBNEAB), Lapu-Lapu City led by MAJ MERITTO JAY E QUIJANO PAF.

The Nomad Forum aims to discuss selected and relevant topics which promotes operational safety through better understanding of the different Nomad systems as well as knowing other information pertinent to the daily operations of the aircraft which was attended by Pilots, crew and maintenance personnel including personnel manning the N-22B/C of Aircraft.

Topics discussed were:

A. Human Factors including Video presentation on Dirty Dozen of Maintenance, Aeronautical Decision Making (ADM) and Flight Situational Awareness (SA).

B. BIRD AIRCRAFT STRIKE HAZARD (BASH) PREVENTION

C. AIRCRAFT FIRE

D. Nomad Aircraft latest discrepancies and corrective actions

One of the highlights of the forum is the presentation of the Unit's Flying Time Accomplishments. Records revealed that the nomad achieved a total of four hundred forty four point six (444.6) flying hours against the programmed 250 flying hours.

As a result, the Unit attained an approximately 177.84% without any untoward accident/incident. This accomplishment was caused by the increased frequency of sovereignty patrols, airlift of personnel and light requirements, ferry of Area and Unit Commanders to their places of official engagements, aerial reconnaissance and among others.

Truly, the once not-so-popular aircraft is now the most sought aircraft of our operational commanders in support to their various airlift requirements.

The forum culminated with a remarks from Wing Commander, 220th Airlift Wing BGEN NICOLAS C PARILLA AFP, He reiterated that safety is paramount in every flight missions. He also acknowledge the effort of the maintenance personnel and crew of nomad for keeping the aircraft operationally ready all the time.
