AIRMEN VOLUNTEER ALLOWANCE FOR TYPHOON VICTIMS

Personnel of the Philippine Air Force volunteered a fraction of their allowance to build up funds to support the continuous relief operations for typhoon victims. The move involved the voluntary deduction of mess allowance for a day from the November 2009 pay slip.

Air Force Chief Lt Gen Oscar H Rabena directed the active participation of the PAF and ordered the dispatch of aircraft, rescue teams as well as engineering teams and machines at the height of the massive disaster relief, rescue and rehabilitation efforts days after typhoons Ondoy, Pepeng and Santi.  The extent of destruction was severe that up to the present, some areas are still under water and needs help.

The fund drive initiated by PAF authorities emphasized not only the Command’s profound involvement in relief and rehabilitation efforts of the government but also pointed out that the Command commiserates with those who lost properties and  loved ones in the aftermath of the typhoons.

The contribution by each member of the PAF was coursed through the PAF Finance Center, the designated custodian of donations.  Volunteering to serve the needy is not new to the PAF.  The Airmen and the PAF hierarchy had been active participants of fund raising events for the youth, the marginalized and in distress.  It is in keeping with the Command’s policy of InSTEP – Integrity, Service above self, Teamwork, Excellence and Professionalism. #
